The JCSRS curriculum divides learning into subject areas, which allows for clear progression. Each subject is divided into six half-termly units of work over the three terms (1A, 1B, 2A, 2B, 3A and 3B).
All pathways have the following subjects:
- Literacy
- Numeracy
- Physical Education (PE)
- Independence
- Expressive Art
- Visual Art
- Relationship and Sexuality Education (RSE)
- Citizenship
- Digital Literacy
- Play, Recreation and Leisure (PRL)
In addition, in the Foundation, Builders and Integrated Pathways, we teach The World Around Me (TWAM), which covers Science and Social Studies; in the Life Skills, Independent Living and Learning and Post 16 Pathways, we teach Vocational Education.
The content of each subject is planned carefully to provide an appropriate level of challenge to learners. Teachers use differentiated success criteria to ensure the curriculum meets the students where they are at. Themes and content are designed to spiral so that students re-visit ideas to enhance their retention. Progress in each subject is shared through the student portfolio on Seesaw and in the written progress reports.
For more information about the specific content of each subject, please refer to the Pathway Yearly Overview or contact the class teacher.
