Therapy Services at JCSRS
The therapy team collaborates closely with teachers and support staff to empower students to reach their full potential through a tiered approach to therapy services.
Therapists offer both direct and indirect support in areas such as communication, fine motor skills, gross motor skills, social skills, self-care, sensory processing, and behaviour. They model strategies for classroom teams and families to ensure consistency across different environments.
Additionally, the therapy team plays a key role in developing individual education plans alongside teachers and families to establish realistic goals for students as they progress through their educational journey and beyond.

Occupational Therapy
Occupational therapy at JCSRS enhances students' independence in educational, social, and play roles within the school environment. Therapy can focus on children improving their hand strength, pencil grip, and overall coordination needed for tasks like writing and cutting. OT involvement in the education team supports students in the classroom, lunchroom, and playground settings, aiming to facilitate engagement with the curriculum, develop self-care skills, encourage play participation, and improve social skills.
Special emphasis is placed on addressing sensory processing challenges, with dedicated sensory rooms and classroom strategies to support student engagement. Collaboration with the vocational team prepares students for future endeavours by developing vocational skills both on and off-site.
Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy at JCSRS focuses on assisting students with diverse physical needs to access the curriculum smoothly and boost their independence. By providing individual gross motor assessments, improving gross motor skills, enhancing mobility, promoting motor planning, coordination, agility, and maintaining better posture during learning, the physiotherapy team ensures students have the necessary support for barrier-free learning.
Extensive resources, including a hydrotherapy pool, transfer equipment, walking aids, gym equipment, and more, cater to a wide range of physical needs, facilitating a consistent and effective approach to physical therapy within the school.
